New Member Guide

Congratulations on joining Victoria Toastmasters Club!  Here are some quick notes for you to get you started on your Toastmasters journey.

  1. Bookmark - Go back to the Member Area home page and bookmark it. You will need to come back to that page often.

  1. Easy-Speak and TI Website - If you have not yet registered on the Easy-Speak system, do it now.  You will need it to book speeches. Here's a guide on using Easy-Speak. Also bookmark the Easy-Speak page.

Also visit www.toastmasters.org to access your member profile with Toastmasters International (TI). You will have a profile with TI as soon as our Club Treasurer has processed your application with them. Click Login at the top of the home page, then click Reset your password to create a password.

Once done, download Your Speaking Voice (Item 99), Effective Evaluation (Item 201), and Gestures: Your Body Speaks (Item 202) from this link here.

  1. New Member Profile - Our VP of Membership (Gemma Fang) should have sent you a link to fill out an Online New Member Profile. If you haven't filled it in yet, please do it, so that our Education team can help you achieve your objectives.

  1. CC, CL, etc  - You will soon be receiving two manuals - the "Competent Communicator" (CC) manual and the "Competent Leader" (CL) manual.  The CC manual will guide you through making 10 speeches.  But Toastmasters is also about leadership, and that's where the CL manual comes in.  Talk to the VP Education about also working on the CL track at the same time.  Many roles you will be performing in the club will be part of the CL manual anyway, so you may as well make it count towards it!

  1. Planning and Setting Goals - It helps to have goals and to plan out how to achieve them. How many speeches do you wish to complete in 6 months?  One goal we recommend is to make at least 1 prepared speech every month, in which case you'll achieve the title "CC" within a year!  Communicate your goals to our Co-VP Education Julie Tang (julie.tang@victoriaTMC.com) so that we can help you achieve it.

  1. Mentor - Find a mentor as soon as you can.  Any member, no matter how senior or junior, can be your mentor so long as he/she agrees. At any time, communicate with your mentor by email or phone if you need help in preparing for speeches, taking up roles, etc.  Let any Education officer know once you have decided on one, or you can ask for one to be assigned.

  1. The Icebreaker - If you have not received your manual yet, download the first project, "The Icebreaker" (after clicking the link, click on "File", then "Download").
